This week I’m celebrating one year of 24inTX!
I’ve been on 27 24-hour trips across the state. I’ve hiked, camped, swam, paddled, danced, photographed, shopped, eaten, driven and adventured my way through the state and I’m no where near finished yet, since visiting places like Texas or Miami is great, and you can even go here and find 5 Fun Things to Do in Florida On Your Birthday too!
The question I get asked the most is, “Which place is your favorite so far?”
That’s such a hard question to answer. How do you compare paddling through a swamp on a warm September day with taking refuge from an ice storm in a 150-year-old wooden church? Or compare swimming with fish in a spring-fed pool with hiking through the second largest canyon in the country?
Choosing my one favorite place in Texas is simply impossible. It’s just too hard.
So I’ll try to narrow it down to my five favorites. They could change at any moment, but here’s what they are right now…
My Top 5:
Caddo Lake – Just about the prettiest swamp you’ll ever see. A quaint cabin, some tough (but beautiful) paddling, a perfect landscape for light painting and the friendly people of Uncertain, TX.
Balmorhea State Park – Swimming with the fishes! Camping with mountains in the background, exploring the gorgeous Calera Chapel and swimming and snorkeling in a spring-fed swimming pool.
Palo Duro Canyon – The Grand Canyon of Texas. Camping and hiking some of the most beautiful landscapes in the state.
Goliad – An important place for Texas history. Home of two historic missions and a famous battleground that tell the story of the Goliad Massacre.
Ennis – The bluebonnet capitol of Texas. I stayed at the mayor’s house and spent my entire stay surrounded by fields of my favorite flowers.
For more of my adventures, check out the Travel Map. It tracks where I’ve been for all of the 24inTX trips.
There you have it! Now back to celebrating on the beach!
Look for a post about Mustang Island State Park next week!
